History

Local Hospice Lottery started life in 1996 as the ‘Farleigh Hospice Lottery’ as a way of generating a regular and dependable income to help fund the care of people with life-limiting illnesses in the Mid Essex area.

After 11 years of running our weekly draw solely for Farleigh Hospice we developed our lottery to benefit hospice care in other areas of the UK. In 2008 we started working with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and soon after St Luke’s Hospice in Basildon, Essex. Since 2012 a further nine hospices have joined us!

There are therefore members entering the draw in support of other hospices but through our innovative method of operation and by sharing management costs and overheads, Local Hospice Lottery is able to ensure people get to support the hospice of their choice whilst offering a larger prize fund and providing more money for hospice care.

This cooperative method of working with hospices has led to us being the fastest growing and largest hospice lottery in Great Britain and recognised by the Help the Hospices Commission into the Future of Hospice Care as ‘a shining example of hospice collaboration’.

Through all of this, the Local Hospice Lottery has continued to offer a great chance of winning, a great way of helping, and all for as little as just £1 per week, to all of its players.
