East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, and supports their families. They offer families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support, including where their child dies; at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridge), The Nook (Norfolk) and The Treehouse (Ipswich).
More than half their care and support is delivered in the family home and community, in surroundings familiar and comfortable for the family, and includes:
- specialist nursing care
- symptom management nursing
- short breaks
- well-being activities
- therapies, including music, art and hydro
- counselling
- sibling support
- volunteer services in the family home.
When time is short, EACH help families make the most of their precious time together and create memories that last forever.
How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps EACH
For both the families who are accessing care, and those who have been bereaved, EACH is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time. EACH rely on voluntary donations for the majority of their income and this year need to raise £6.7 million from fundraising and £7.8 million in retail income. The more funds EACH have, the bigger difference they can make to local children and families.
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards EACH’s running costs and provides a regular stream of income which they can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables EACH to plan and develop their services for the future.
In 2022, £11.9 million was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 66% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.8 million.
Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of EACH to EACH. This is expected to be at least £3,000,000 over five years from April 2022.
