How it works
With a total weekly prize fund of £2,000, the Local Hospice Lottery not only gives its members fantastic odds of winning (10 times better than playing the National Lottery’s Lotto!) it also allows them to make a real difference to children and adults affected by cancer and other life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses in local areas.
Who benefits? You choose
When joining the Local Hospice Lottery new members are asked to name the hospice that they would like to support and to receive the profits raised from each £1 they spend. The profits are then donated monthly to the appropriate charity to help fund the care of people affected by life-limiting illnesses in mid Essex in the case of Farleigh Hospice, in Basildon and Thurrock in the case of St Luke's Hospice and of life-limited and life-threatened children in the East Anglia region in the case of EACH.
How many chances can I have and how can I pay?
One chance in the Local Hospice Lottery’s weekly draw costs just £1 and players can increase their odds of winning by buying more than one chance. Anyone, providing they are aged 16 or over, can play, no matter where they live.
Although Standing Order is our preferred method of payment (as it helps keep administration costs to a minimum) players can also choose to pay by Cheque or Credit/Debit Card, should they prefer.
If a member would like to change their method of payment, or the amount of chances they hold, at any time, they can do so by simply contacting the lottery office on 0845 122 0772 (local rate).
What happens after I’ve joined?
When a completed joining form, along with the relevant method of payment, is received, the new player’s details are input onto the lottery system and a unique 5 digit game number is randomly selected and allocated to them. This unique lottery game number is then registered within the system against the player’s details and will remain exclusively theirs for the duration of their membership and beyond. Game numbers are never re-allocated. All of the player’s future payments will be allocated to this number and, every week that the number is in credit, entry into the weekly (Friday) draw is guaranteed.
A ‘welcome’ letter, together with a membership card detailing the player’s unique game number and some further information about the Local Hospice Lottery and its’ beneficiaries, will be posted to the new member within 2-3 weeks of receipt of their form and payment.
The draw is run every Friday and the 43 winners are randomly generated (prizes as detailed below), with £1 being deducted from all participating players respective game number(s). All winners are notified automatically via post, so there is never any need to ‘claim’ prizes or worry about checking the weekly winning numbers. Data Protection Information
In accordance with the data protection act, the Local Hospice Lottery will store player’s data securely for the purposes of administering their participation in the weekly draw and communicating with them about their membership. St Luke's Hospice, EACH and Farleigh Hospice would also like to keep players supporting them up to date on the difference their support is making and will therefore send them occasional mailings which they think will be of interest.
