Martlets

Martlets is a local charity providing essential care to people affected by terminal illness in Brighton & Hove and the surrounding areas. Their expert teams provide the very best care and support – helping patients and their loved ones to live life to the full during the precious time they have together.

Most people receive care in their own homes, while others choose to spend their final days on the inpatient unit. The inpatient unit also offers essential respite care and symptom management.

Outpatients also visit the hospice for pain relief, physiotherapy, counselling, welfare advice and social activities. Some of these services were adapted during the COVID pandemic and continue to be offered via telephone and online video sessions.

From terminal cancer and end-stage heart disease, to neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Motor Neurone Disease – Martlets are there to help.

In fact, since opening their doors in 1997 Martlets have supported over 34,000 local people and care for around 3,000 local people each year. Thanks to the ongoing support of local people, businesses, and trusts, this care is given completely free of charge.

How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps Martlets
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards Martlet’s running costs and provides a regular stream of income which they can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to families in and around Brighton and Hove now, it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future too.

In 2022, £11.9 million was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 66% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.8 million.
