Mary Ann Evans Hospice

The Mary Ann Evans Hospice is a local community hospice providing specialised care, support and advice to patients and families living with a life limiting illness across Nuneaton, Bedworth, Atherstone, Coleshill and the surrounding villages of Northern Warwickshire. They believe that everyone in their community should have the right to experience a journey towards end of life and into bereavement that is supported, comfortable, safe and personalised – in a place of their choice.

All of the Hospice’s services are delivered free of charge by a team of staff and volunteers who place great emphasis on choice, dignity, respect, compassion and enablement. They provide comprehensive, high quality support and palliative care to patients, as well as their carers and loved ones. Their services include:

A Day Hospice which offers a warm and welcoming home from home environment and was established to enhance the quality of life to people who have a life limiting illness, such as Cancer, Heart Failure and Motor Neurone Disease.

A Hospice at Home Team who take care in to the heart of the community and provide dedicated care and support to patients who prefer to be cared for in the comfort and familiar surroundings in their own homes.

Complementary Therapies which play an important role in the way the Hospice looks after patients. Treatments can be really beneficial in providing support, aiding relaxation and giving a sense of comfort and wellbeing.

Lymphoedema Care which offers treatment for patients who have developed Lymphoedema as a side effect of their cancer treatment.

Bereavement services to support carers and loved ones and help them cope with the challenges a terminal diagnosis brings and to support bereaved families.

Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care to empower people to live with, and through, anxiety and distress in a manner that feels right for them.

How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps Mary Ann Evans Hospice

All of Mary Ann Evans Hospice’s services are provided completely free of charge and it currently costs £1.7 million every year to keep the Hospice running, with only 25% of this amount being funded by the NHS. This means that the Hospice relies on the goodwill and generosity of the local community to help raise the balance. Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards Mary Ann Evans Hospice’s running costs and provides a regular stream of income which they can rely on receiving, each and every month.  Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future.

In 2023, £13,644,000 was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 2% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 67% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £9,163,000.

Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Mary Ann Evans Hospice to Mary Ann Evans Hospice. This is expected to be at least £300,000 over five years from April 2024.
