North London Hospice
North London Hospice has been caring for local people affected by life-limiting illnesses and with specialist needs since 1984. They are the local hospice for adults across the communities of Enfield, Barnet and Haringey, providing the following services:
- HEALTH AND WELLBEING CENTRE – The Health and Wellbeing Centre in Winchmore Hill is North London Hospice’s setting for their Outpatient and Therapies service. The centre has a multi-professional team who work with patients to enable them to live as well as is possible, focussing on what is important to the patient.
- IN-PATIENT UNIT – They provide specialist 24-hour care at their in-patient unit in Woodside Avenue. Their aim is to help patients maintain their independence and dignity in a warm and supportive environment.
- HOSPICE AT HOME – North London Hospice have a specialist team of healthcare professionals working in the community – nurses, doctors, social workers, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Their work complements that of GPs, district nurses, social services and hospital teams.
- BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT – They have a team of trained staff and volunteers who are able to offer individual or group support.
Each year the hospice supports around 3,000 patients and those closest to them and all of its services are given completely free of charge. With over £13 million needed to run their vital services each year and only 40% of funding coming from the Government, this is only made possible by the ongoing support and kindness from the local community.
How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps North London Hospice
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards the running costs of North London Hospice and provides a regular stream of income the Hospice can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now – it also allows the Team to plan and develop their services for the future.
In 2023, £13,644,000 was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 2% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 67% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £9,163,000.
Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of North London Hospice to North London Hospice. This is expected to be at least £200,000 over five years from April 2024.
