St Elizabeth Hospice

St Elizabeth Hospice’s care is centred around a person’s individual needs and provided wherever it is needed – in a patient’s own home, out in the community, or at the hospice itself.

It touches the lives of many local families across East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, every single day. But as a registered charity, this is only made possible by the ongoing help and kindness of local people like you.

All of the hospice’s services are delivered free of charge by a team of staff and volunteers who place great emphasis on choice, dignity, respect, compassion and enablement. They provide comprehensive, high quality support and palliative care to patients, as well as their carers and loved ones. Their services include:

Impatient Unit
The inpatient unit (IPU) in Ipswich provides specialist palliative care for the relief of pain and other distressing symptoms, at all times aiming to maintain dignity and choice. The IPU is a short stay unit, there are several reasons why patients are admitted to the IPU, including end of life care. There are 18 beds on the IPU made up of wards and single rooms.

Hospice Community service
Around 70% of the care St Elizabeths Hospice gives to their patients is in the community where they live, whether that be at home, in a care home or nursing home. A team of clinical nurse specialists (CNS) and community healthcare assistants (CHCA) provide support at home with specialist care including symptom control, and personal care in the latter stages of illness.

Community Care Unit
The Community Care Unit is a new service, replacing Day Care services, in both East Suffolk and Great Yarmouth and Waveney. The Community Care Unit supports patients with complex needs. The service supports symptom control, advance and improve ease of access to professionals and provide social integration.

Zest Young Adult Service
Zest supports young adults aged 14 and upwards with progressive and life-limiting illnesses to ensure that they get the specialist care, tailored treatment and services they need to be able to enjoy life to the full.

How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps St Elizabeth Hospice
All of St Elizabeth Hospice’s services are given completely free of charge, with only a proportion of their funding being provided by the NHS. This means the hospice relies on the ongoing goodwill and generosity of the local community to help keep their vital services running.

Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards the running costs of St Elizabeth Hospice and provide a regular stream of income they can rely on receiving, each and every month.

In 2022, £11.9 million was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 66% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.8 million.

Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of St Elizabeth Hospice to St Elizabeth Hospice. This is expected to be at least £1,400,000 over five years from November 2022.
