St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire)
St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire), an independent charity based in Basingstoke, was established in 1992 and their mission is to support people across North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end of life or experiencing bereavement. They provide the highest possible quality of life by providing a choice of specialist care and support.
Over 30 years later St Michael’s Hospice cares for over 500 patients a year across the community and this care takes many forms. The comfortably furnished 10 bed in-patient unit (IPU) offers patients the opportunity to live a fulfilled and enjoyable life with an emphasis on making the most of the time available to them. They may require admission at various stages of their illness for rehabilitation after treatment or to control complex symptoms.
The Hospice also offers Hospice at Home care, therapies including physiotherapy and occupational therapy and a specialist MND clinic.
Patients’ families and friends are also offered support be it practical, emotional, social or spiritual through the Patient and Family Support Team and Living Well centre.
All compassionate care services are provided free of charge to those in the community who need it. But it costs St Michael’s Hospice £14,000 per day to carry out their services, receiving less than 16% of funds from the NHS. So, your support is vital in ensuring they can continue their amazing work.
How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire)
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery provide a regular and reliable income stream that contribute to St Michael’s Hospice running costs each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to people in and around North Hampshire now, but it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future too.
In 2022, £11.9 million was raised from ticket sales, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery members. The remaining 66% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.83 million. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of St Michael’s Hospice to St Michael’s Hospice. This is expected to be at least £800,000 over five years from October 2023.
