Springhill Hospice
Springhill Hospice first opened its doors to the local community of Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton in 1989 with the aim of providing the highest standard of palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
From the very beginning of their time being supported and cared for by Springhill patients are encouraged to maintain their independence and make informed choices. The emphasis of care is always based on a patient’s individual needs. This includes the provision of Hospice care from the 16 bed Inpatient Unit or from a patient’s own home, a creative outlet with Day Therapies services, counselling and bereavement support, specialist Dementia Support, and spiritual and pastoral support.
Care is also extended to the loved ones and carers of patients who often need advice and support during the most difficult of times. Springhill Hospice is committed to making every moment count, working collaboratively with patients and those close to them to ensure everything is done according to their wishes. This is the backbone of Springhill’s mission and is provided free of charge to those who need it. However, the cost of funding these services means the Hospice needs to raise in excess of £8,000 every day.
How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps Springhill Hospice
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery provide a regular and reliable income stream that contribute to Springhill Hospice’s running costs each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to people in and around Rochdale now, it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future too.
In 2023, £13,644,000 was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 2% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 67% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £9,163,000. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Springhill Hospice to Springhill Hospice. This is expected to be at least £1,700,000 over five years from November 2023.
