Wakefield Hospice

Thanks to the support of the Wakefield community (and beyond) Wakefield Hospice has been caring for local families since 1990. The hospice team is committed to providing the highest level of support for people who have advanced, active and progressive life-threatening illnesses in Wakefield. As well as caring for the individual, support is also given to family and friends during the time of illness and into bereavement.

Your lottery membership will help to fund some of the services outlined below:

  • END OF LIFE CARE – Wakefield Hospice has eight single en-suite bedrooms and two four-bedded bays. Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and a social worker all work together to give patients the highest quality of care during their stay.
  • THE SEYMOUR SUITE – offers day therapy support including group sessions, counselling services, art, music and complementary therapies.
  • BEREAVEMENT SERVICES – are given to family and friends affected by the loss of their loved one. Specialist support is also given to children when needed.
  • ADDITIONAL SERVICES such as domestics and facilities ensure that the hospice is kept clean and well maintained. Our chefs provide freshly cooked meals to ensure that patients receive the nourishment they need during their stay.

How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps Wakefield Hospice

Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards the running costs of Wakefield Hospice and provides a regular stream of income the Hospice can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now – it also allows the team to plan and develop their services for the future.

In 2022, £11.9 million was raised from tickets purchased by players supporting all participating hospices, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 19% reinvested to recruit new lottery players. The remaining 66% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.8 million.

Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support Wakefield Hospice to Wakefield Hospice. This is expected to be at least £500,000 over five years from April 2022.
