Who benefits? You choose

Local Hospice Lottery is a society lottery currently benefiting over 40 adult’s and children’s hospices across Great Britain. Although our players all take part in the same weekly draw, upon joining they are asked to select the participating hospice that they would like to support. This means that the proceeds from EVERY £1 they spend will directly benefit THEIR chosen hospice and families in need of essential hospice care in THEIR local area.  You can find out more about how your ongoing support directly benefits your local hospice here

Anyone, providing they are aged 18 years or older, and are resident in Great Britain, can join the Local Hospice Lottery in support of their local hospice.

How many chances can I have and how can I pay?

One chance (game number) in Local Hospice Lottery’s weekly draw costs just £1 and you can increase both your odds of winning, and the support for your local hospice, by buying more than one game number if you wish.

Entry costs just £5 per month, per game number, or you can also choose to pay £15 quarterly, £30 half yearly or £60 annually if you prefer.

Paying £5 per month (or equivalent frequency), per game number, gives you the best chance of not missing a draw, regardless of how many weekly draws there are in a month. PLUS… the accumulation of credit across the course of a calendar year also means that you can benefit from receiving up to eight extra chances in our annual Christmas Super Draws!

Direct Debit is our preferred method of payment as it helps to keep administration costs to a minimum, but players can also choose to pay by debit card if they prefer (please note, a minimum purchase amount applies to card payments and we are not able to accept credit cards).

If you would like to change your method of payment, or the amount of game numbers you have, at any time, you can do so by simply contacting us on FREEPHONE 0800 316 0645 or by emailing info@localhospicelottery.org.

Until a family member is diagnosed with a life limiting illness you don’t think about hospice care. For me, it’s a way of supporting a very important and life-changing charity. Any prizes won is a nice bonus but not as important as supporting your local hospice.
Local Hospice Lottery player

After I’ve joined, what happens?

The Local Hospice Lottery software randomly generates each player’s unique 6-digit game number (or numbers, if more than one weekly number is taken) as part of the process of entering new players’ details onto the system. These unique game number(s) will also help to generate the eight additional 9-digit game numbers for potential entry into the Christmas Super Draws.

Within 2-3 working days of joining you will receive two email communications to confirm your new unique game number/s, your payment schedule and how your chosen hospice will benefit.

Then, once we receive your first payment, you’ll start entering the draw and have your great chance to win as you help your local hospice to keep delivering care locally. THANK YOU!

When is the draw run and how are winners notified?

The draw is run weekly, every Monday, except for Bank Holidays when the draw will take place on the next working day. The lottery software’s Random Number Generator (RNG) selects the winning game numbers from all of the game numbers which are in credit and are entered into the draw for that week.

The player with the first game number randomly selected wins the £2,000 prize (or £10,000 if a Super Draw). All the other prizes are then allocated in the same sequence as the game numbers are drawn. As part of this process, the £1,000 rollover prize in the regular weekly draw will either be determined as won or rolled over.

Prize cheques are generated as part of the draw process and posted automatically to winners. So you don’t even need to worry about checking the weekly number(s) and claiming your prizes. If you are lucky enough to win a prize of £1,000 or more, someone will contact you to give you the good news and double check your details before the prize is sent.

You can always view the weekly winning numbers here on our website. Following us on Facebook and Instagram is another great way to find out exciting news about the Lottery and the difference your support is making to your local hospice. You can also help us to raise even more by sharing the news of your new membership with your friends and family and encouraging them to join too!

FAQs

Simply choose a hospice you’d like to support, sign up to the Local Hospice Lottery, and select your preferred payment method.

Yes, you can choose your preferred participating hospice to support when signing up to play the lottery.

Membership is charged at £5 per month. This is payable monthly (£5), quarterly(£15), half yearly (£30) or annually (£60). Then, each lottery entry costs £1 per week and each play is simply deducted from the credit on your account generated by the monthly fee. Payment works this way because we are required by law to collect payments in advance of all of our draws.

Upon signing up, new members will receive a welcome letter and membership card with their unique game number within 5 working days. Additionally, a member of the Customer Experience Team will reach out by phone to confirm everything has been received and offer a warm welcome to the lottery.

All winners are notified automatically by email or post, and cheques are automatically sent out by post after each draw. If you win £1,000 or more, you’ll receive a telephone call first.

Paying regularly by Direct Debit or Standing Order not only helps us to minimise our administration costs, it also reduces the chance of you not being entered into a draw. If you choose to pay by cheque or card, we will send you a reminder letter three to four weeks before your current credit expires. You can then renew with your card over the phone. If you pay by cheque, please send your payment (made payable to ‘Local Hospice Lottery’) by return of your reminder letter. You will only be entered into the weekly draw if your membership is in credit.
