Children's Hospices Across Scotland (All of Scotland)

CHAS is Scotland’s national children’s hospice service. They care for children with life-shortening conditions and their whole family – wherever they are in Scotland. They also provide emotional and bereavement support for the whole family when sadness and grief can make dealing with everyday life a struggle.

CHAS are committed to making sure that, no matter how short a family’s time together may be, that it is time filled with happiness and fun. They give children experiences they cannot have elsewhere – to feel the wind and sunshine on their faces, to sparkle, to laugh, and to have those memorable moments of joy – moments that will be treasured forever.

Sadly, at the moment CHAS can only help one in every three children living with an incurable condition in Scotland, despite three children dying each week from terminal illnesses. However, they are determined to reach them all and that means CHAS needs to raise more money. Only then can they keep the joy alive for every family as they face the hardest challenge of all. Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards their running costs and provides a regular stream of income which CHAS can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables CHAS to plan and develop their services for the future.

In 2020 for each £1 entry in the weekly draw Local Hospice Lottery gave an average of 68p to hospice care. Children’s Hospices Across Scotland is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by Local Hospice Lottery. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland.

With the help of wonderful supporters like you, this is expected to be at least £2,000,000 over five years (from April 2020)!

Highland Hospice (Inverness and the Highlands)

Highland Hospice is committed to the principles of equality and diversity and their services are offered free of charge to everyone in the Highlands who need them. They are an independent local charity reliant on the community and any contribution make a meaningful difference to people when they need it most. When faced with life shortening illness, death and bereavement, the people of the Highlands deserve the best possible care and support.

The hospice Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Centres offer specialist support to patients with a progressive, life shortening illness. By managing their pain and other physical symptoms, Highland Hospice help make time and space for reflection, for gaining perspective and for achieving a measure of calm and tranquillity. Crucially, their team also offers advice with the emotional, social and spiritual issues that may arise and work with patients, families and carers at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life.
As well as providing services direct to those in need, Highland Hospice want to serve care professionals and informal carers in the Highland community by sharing knowledge and resources so they can provide the best care they can. Through their adult and child bereavement services, and by working in partnership with others, Highland Hospice aim to ensure support is available for all those in the Highlands living with grief, regardless of age or location.

In 2020 for each £1 entry in the weekly draw Local Hospice Lottery gave an average of 68p to hospice care. Highland Hospice is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by Local Hospice Lottery. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Highland Hospice to Highland Hospice.

With the help of wonderful supporters like you, this is expected to be at least £1,200,000 over five years (from April 2020)!

Kilbryde Hospice (East Kilbride and surrounding area)

Kilbryde Hospice is a voluntary independent hospice which exists to provide compassionate, specialist palliative care to people with life-limiting, progressive illnesses and to their relatives and carers. The hospice’s team aims to provide the highest level of specialist care and enable people to live life to the fullest.

All of Kilbryde Hospice’s services are given completely free of charge, with only a proportion of their funding being provided by NHS Scotland. This means that the Hospice relies on the ongoing goodwill and generosity of their local community to help keep their vital services running.

Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards the running costs of Kilbryde Hospice and provide a regular stream of income they can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now – it also enables Kilbryde Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future.

In 2020 for each £1 entry in the weekly draw Local Hospice Lottery gave an average of 68p to hospice care. Kilbryde Hospice is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by Local Hospice Lottery. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Kilbryde Hospice to Kilbryde Hospice.

With the help of wonderful supporters like you, this is expected to be at least £130,000 over five years (from October 2020)!

St. Vincent's Hospice (Renfrewshire)

St Vincent’s Hospice serves the communities of Renfrewshire and surrounding areas, providing specialist palliative care to those living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Services are provided completely free of charge to patients and their families. They have an 8 bedded in-patient unit, all of which are single bedded rooms, with overnight accommodation available for family members. Bed occupancy remains high with the average length of stay recently being 20 days.

St Vincent’s Day Hospice is attended by patients living in the community. The purpose of the Day Hospice is to support patients and their carers. Coming to Day Hospice provides companionship and social support which helps reduce isolation, fears and anxiety. These services include a range of therapies provided by specially trained nurses, doctors, chaplains, family support workers, and other professionals.

It costs £5,000 per day to run the services provided by St Vincent’s Hospice, over half of which comes from voluntary donations. St Vincent’s Hospice needs your support to enable it to continue to provide crucial services to enhance the lives of those living with cancer and other life limiting illness.

Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards the hospices running costs and provides a regular stream of income which they can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future.

St. Vincent’s Hospice is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by Local Hospice Lottery. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of St. Vincent’s Hospice to St. Vincent’s Hospice.

With the help of wonderful supporters like you, this is expected to be at least £750,000 over five years (from April 2020)!

Strathcarron Hospice (Lanarkshire)

Strathcarron Hospice cares for people with illnesses that cannot be cured including cancer, respiratory and heart conditions and neurological diseases. They are a charity providing specialist palliative care free of charge to people in NHS Forth Valley, and to Cumbernauld and Kilsyth in NHS Lanarkshire. Their care is provided wherever it is needed. This may be within the hospice in Denny, but also in patients’ homes, in the local hospital Forth Valley Royal Hospital, care homes and community hospital settings. Care is also extended to families and carers.

To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Strathcarron has to raise around £3.5 million each year. Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards their running costs and provides a regular stream of income which Strathcarron Hospice can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables the Hospice to plan and develop their services for the future.

In 2020 for each £1 entry in the weekly draw Local Hospice Lottery gave an average of 68p to hospice care. Strathcarron Hospice is one of a number of hospices throughout Great Britain supported by Local Hospice Lottery. Local Hospice Lottery will give between 55% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Strathcarron Hospice to Strathcarron Hospice.

With the help of wonderful supporters like you, this is expected to be at least £2,500,000 over five years (from April 2020)!

Prizes & odds of winning

How Proceeds are Spent and Odds of Winning

In 2020, £9.17 million was raised from ticket sales, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 17% reinvested to recruit new lottery members. The remaining 68% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £6.28 million. Based on estimated draw-entry numbers, the likelihood of winning a prize in the weekly draw is, on average, 1 in 960. Similarly, for our March & September Super Draws the likelihood of winning a prize is estimated at 1 in 1,175 and for our Christmas Super Draw is 1 in 4,335.

How winners are determined and prizes allocated

On joining you will be allocated a unique game number(s). Winning game numbers are selected from the unique game numbers of all players entering the draw by using licensed Random Number Generator (RNG) software. The player with the first game number randomly selected wins the £2,000 prize (or the £10,000 prize if a Super Draw). All other prizes are then allocated in the same sequence as the game numbers are drawn. As part of this process, the £1,000 prize in the regular weekly draw will either be won or rolled over to a maximum of £25,000.

How the Lottery works

Once you have completed the online form, you will be allocated a unique game number(s) and this will be confirmed in your Welcome Pack which will be posted to you within 5 working days of joining. Your Welcome Pack will also include lots of other useful information about how the Lottery works and how your ongoing participation will directly benefit your local hospice and the local families that rely on its services.

A member of our Customer Experience Team will also try and make contact with you, just to check that you have received your Welcome Pack and are happy with everything.

Then as soon as we receive your first payment – you’ll enter the draw and have a chance to win as you help!

The draw takes place every Monday (except for bank holidays, where the draw will then take place on the next working day) and winners’ cheques are sent out automatically. So you don’t even need to worry about checking your number(s) or claiming your prizes!

How much it costs to play

One game number in Local Hospice Lottery’s weekly draw costs just £5 per month and this gives you the best chance of entering every weekly draw, regardless of how many Mondays (and therefore draws) there are in the month. PLUS… the full payment of £60 across the course of a year also gives you up to EIGHT EXTRA entries (per game number) in our annual £10,000 Christmas Super Draws. Increasing your chance to win AND help!

Players can of course further increase their odds of winning (and helping!) by buying more than one game number if they wish and anyone living in Great Britain, providing they are aged 18 or over, can play.

Direct Debit is our preferred method of payment as it helps to keep administration costs to a minimum and ensures that players don’t miss a draw. You can chose to spread your cost and pay monthly (just £5.00 per month, per game number), or quarterly (£15 per game number), half-yearly (£30 per game number) or annually (£60 per game number) if you prefer.

We understand that not everyone will want to pay by direct debit, and for this reason you can also choose to pay by debit card should you prefer (please note – min of £30, debit cards only).
