Dorothy House Hospice Care
It has always been extremely important to support our local hospices, but today it is more important than ever before. Because of your weekly £1s, we are still running our weekly draw and able to generate a regular and reliable income that Dorothy House Hospice Care can rely on. So THANK YOU!
Dorothy House Hospice Care was started in 1976 and provides compassionate caring for its local community, supporting people with life-limiting illness to live well and die well.
Every day, the charity supports around 700 families affected by cancer, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other life-limiting conditions.
Dorothy House serves a community of 550,000 across Bath, north and west Wiltshire and north east Somerset; providing a range of patient services including dedicated end of life and respite care in our in-patient unit, out-patient and day-patient services, hospice at home care, nurse specialists and a 24 hour advice line for professionals, patients and their families.
Most of the charity’s care is provided in people’s own homes as that is where the majority of patients prefer to be but regardless of location all of Dorothy House Hospice Care’s services are provided free of charge and only possible with the generous support of the local community.
How playing the Local Hospice Lottery helps Dorothy House Hospice Care
Over 70% of Dorothy House’s income needs to be raised from voluntary sources and the charity needs to raise over £9,000 each and every day. Your support of the care provided at Dorothy House Hospice Care will make a real difference to patients and their families.
Profits from the Local Hospice Lottery help towards Dorothy House Hospice Care’s running costs and provides a regular stream of income which they can rely on receiving, each and every month. Not only does this help to provide essential care and support to local families right now, it also enables Dorothy House Hospice Care to plan and develop their services for the future.
In 2021, £10.6 million was raised from ticket sales, with 3% spent on prizes, 12% spent on administration and management and 18% reinvested to recruit new lottery members. The remaining 67% was given to hospice care – an amazing total of £7.14 million.
Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of Dorothy House to Dorothy House. This is expected to be at least £3,200,000 over five years from April 2022.
