Imagine receiving a call to inform you that you’ve won £2,000 simply by supporting your local hospice… That’s what happened to Lorraine last month whilst playing the Local Hospice Lottery in support of Wakefield Hospice!
“I couldn’t believe it when they called to say I’d won! I had just purchased flowers for my late husband, George – it was the sixth anniversary of his passing the next day – it was so surreal I just burst into tears” recalls Lorraine.
Praising the care and support the Hospice provided, Lorraine added “The Hospice did an incredible job in caring for George, for my mum a couple of years previously, and providing invaluable support to our family over the years too. I am so pleased to be able to support them through the Local Hospice Lottery -and what a fantastic surprise it was to win the top prize!”
Wakefield Hospice has been providing expert care to people who have advanced, active and progressive life-threatening illnesses in their local area for over 30 years, and it can cost over £4M per year to do so. But thanks to the ongoing kindness of local people who support them in various ways, such as playing the Local Hospice Lottery, they continue to make a world of difference in their local community and provide a haven of compassion and comfort to those who need it. Since becoming part of the Local Hospice Lottery in 2021, over £165,000 has been raised towards the Hospice’s caring work in Wakefield thanks to the people like Lorraine who take part in our weekly draws.
