The Hospice caught up with Joyce following her fantastic win and asked why she plays the Local Hospice Lottery: “I think it’s an ideal way of raising money for local hospice care, it’s such a small amount you don’t even notice is coming out of your bank account!
“I didn’t believe it when I answered the phone and found out that I had won, I kept saying ‘are you sure?’ and I even checked my numbers on the website, they were right, I had won!
“One of the things I’m going to spend the money on is some blinds for my windows. I had been saving up, but now I can just buy them, and my winnings will go towards something I can see every day. I’ll look at them and be reminded of the Hospice!”
Joyce explained that she started supporting her local hospice in various ways after a family member was cared for over 30 years ago: “I would encourage others to play Local Hospice Lottery in support of Saint Michael’s Hospice (part of North Yorkshire Hospice Care) because you never know when you may need the Hospice. You couldn’t wish for a better place to be cared for and it’s also a place for relatives to be supported.”
